Grief and faith
When loss shakes what you believe, or when faith is what holds you.
For some people, faith is a comfort in grief. For others, a loss shakes it to the ground. Many feel both.
If your faith helps
Rituals, prayers, community and belief in something beyond death can give real support. Lean on them.
If your faith is shaken
You might feel angry at God, abandoned, or unsure what you believe. That is a common part of grief, and it is talked about in most traditions. Doubt is not failure.
If you do not have faith
People without religious belief grieve deeply too. Meaning can come from the person's life, from love, from nature, or from carrying on their values.
Finding the right support
Faith leaders, chaplains and grief counsellors can all help. Look for someone who will listen without telling you what to believe.
