Rebuilding when your identity was your job

When work ends and you do not know who you are.

For many people, especially men, work is identity. Redundancy, retirement, injury or burnout can leave a hole.

What can help

  • Separate what you did from who you are: your values, skills and relationships
  • Keep a routine
  • Find purpose elsewhere: volunteering, learning, family, community
  • Talk to others who have been through it

Grief is normal

You may grieve your old role. That is real loss.
