Trans and nonbinary people and abuse

Abuse that targets gender identity.

Trans and nonbinary people can face abuse that specifically targets their identity.

Examples

  • Refusing to use the right name or pronouns
  • Threatening to out them
  • Controlling access to medical care or hormones
  • Destroying clothes or items that affirm identity
  • Telling them nobody else will love them

It is abuse

These behaviours are control, and they are recognised forms of abuse.

Support

Look for services that are trans inclusive. You can ask a service before sharing anything whether they support trans and nonbinary people.
