Small steps count

Why progress does not need to be dramatic.

When life has fallen apart, people often feel they should be making big moves: a new job, a new home, a new plan. On some days, getting out of bed is the big move.

Why small steps matter

  • They are possible on bad days
  • Each one is proof you can still act
  • They add up faster than it feels

Examples of real progress

  • Getting up and opening the curtains
  • Eating a proper meal
  • Answering one message
  • Making one phone call you have been avoiding
  • Walking to the end of the street

Write them down

At the end of each day, write one thing you did. After a week, read the list. It is often longer than you expected.

When small feels too small

Compare yourself with where you were a month ago, not with where other people are.
