Small routines that make a hard day possible

When everything feels big, start with things that are small.

On hard days, the aim is not to fix your life. It is to get through the day with a little care.

A short list

  • Get up at roughly the same time
  • Drink a glass of water
  • Eat something, even if it is simple
  • Go outside for ten minutes
  • Do one useful thing, however small
  • Speak to one person, even briefly
  • Go to bed at roughly the same time

That is all. If you manage half of them, that is a good day.

Why it matters

Trauma can make the world feel chaotic. Small routines give it a frame. They also give you proof that you can do things, which matters when confidence is low.

When even that is too much

Do one thing. Then rest. If days like this are frequent, it is worth talking to a doctor or counsellor. You do not have to keep pushing through alone.
