If you are worried about your own behaviour

When you are the one causing harm, and want to change.

If you have hurt or frightened a partner, or are worried you might, recognising it is an important step.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Is my partner afraid of me?
  • Do I try to control what they do?
  • Have I hit, pushed, threatened or intimidated them?
  • Do I blame them for my anger?

Change is possible

Programmes exist in many countries for people who want to stop abusive behaviour. They focus on responsibility, not excuses.

Right now

If you feel you might hurt someone, leave the situation. Go outside. Call someone.

Your past experiences, including trauma, may explain some of your behaviour. They do not make it acceptable. Getting help is the responsible choice.
