Abuse from a parent or adult child
Family violence is not only between partners.
Domestic abuse can come from any family member: a parent, an adult child, a sibling, or another relative you live with.
Examples
- An adult child taking money or threatening a parent
- A parent controlling an adult child's life
- Siblings using violence or intimidation
- Carers neglecting or harming someone dependent on them
Why it can be harder to name
You may feel responsible for them, love them, or fear what will happen to them if you act.
Help
Domestic abuse services usually support people experiencing family violence, not only partner abuse. Elder abuse services also exist in many places.
