Discrimination in housing
When you are refused because of who you are.
Being refused a home or treated unfairly because of who you are is discrimination. In many countries it is illegal.
Possible grounds
- Race, ethnicity or nationality
- Disability
- Sexuality or gender identity
- Religion
- Having children
- Receiving benefits, in some places
What it can look like
- Being told a place is taken when it is not
- Different rules or prices
- Harassment by landlords or neighbours
What to do
- Write down what happened, with names and dates
- Keep messages and adverts
- Contact an equality body, housing advice service or lawyer
You have a right to be treated fairly.
