What happens in a mental health crisis service

If you go to emergency services for your mental health.

If you go to an emergency department or crisis service for your mental health, it helps to know what to expect.

What usually happens

  • Someone will ask questions about how you are and your safety
  • You may wait a while
  • A mental health professional may assess you
  • Together you decide next steps: going home with support, a follow up, or a stay in hospital

You can

  • Bring someone with you
  • Ask questions
  • Say what you need

Afterwards

Ask for a plan, and who to contact if things get worse again.
