Emotional abuse is abuse

Words and behaviour that wear you down are real harm.

Emotional abuse can be harder to see than physical abuse, but it can do deep damage.

What it can include

  • Constant criticism
  • Name calling and humiliation
  • Silent treatment as punishment
  • Making you doubt your memory or sanity
  • Threats
  • Blaming you for everything

Effects

  • Losing confidence
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Feeling you cannot do anything right
  • Not trusting your own judgement

It counts

You do not need bruises to be abused. Domestic abuse services support people experiencing emotional abuse.
